029 "Coelacanth meditation" framed print for TOHOKU
A lost civilization. The deep seas are governed by silence. There in the depths, a pair of living fossils, two coelacanths, peck at eggs that shine like jewels as they drift in search of life.
"Coelacanth meditation" is an artistic representation of its theme song 'Chopin Ballade no. 1, Op. 23', a masterpiece that masks its passion in loneliness.
Listen to the song on YouTube here.
The artwork is a collage created by Unissograff artist ca37 using a picture of a coelacanth that was drawn by a 10-year old boy.
At the time he made the drawing, this young artist was living in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture. Wanting to help the children who had lost their hometowns to the tsunami of The Great East Japan Earthquake, and being fond of coelacanths, he drew the picture using an image from a picture book.
This beautiful digital framed print is hand prepared to order by craftsmen in London, UK (please expect up to one week for delivery).*¹
Unissograff is art that would be incomplete without children.

[Donations generated by Tohoku artwork]
The origins of Unissograff™ can be found in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred on 11th March 2011 and we continue to donate to charities that work tirelessly to support mothers and children that are still affected even now, some ten years on.
Some of these donations are made to NPO Baby Smile Ishinomaki, who jointly managed Rakugaki Art workshops with Unisograff in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture.
Baby smile Ishinomaki is an aid organisation formed for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami by a mother of two who was herself a victim of the disaster, having experienced the horrors while still pregnant with her second baby (her older child was only two years old at the time).
Initially, right after the disaster, their aid focused on providing support to the pregnant women and mothers with babies up to pre-school age who were living in neighbouring area of Ishinomaki, a coastal fishing town in Miyagi prefecture which suffered devastating damage.
They continue today, offering emotional and parenting support for mothers in the region, many of whom remain in temporary housing, who are still affected by those traumatic events and the hardships that followed.
