Heralding the coming of Spring by sowing the seeds of flowers over the desolate winter mountains, "Deidarabocci" is a giant guardian god of the forest.
Even with coldest of winters, flowers will bloom.
Embracing this image, this artwork was created to support the children of Fukushima, who suffered not only the devasting effects of the earthquake and tsunami but also those of the nuclear plant meltdown, and who still look to make it the home from where they shall spread wings as they look to the future.

[Deidarabocci (sometimes spelt 'Deidarabotchi') can be found in the popular Japanese animated film "Princess Mononoke". The Forest Spirit, also called 'Shishigami' (Deer God), is the protector of the Cedar Forest and is the god of life and death. Resembling a deer, but with more antlers and a human-like face, it transforms at night into a huge, translucent humanoid entity known as the Night-Walker (Deidarabocci).]

The theme song that "Deidarabocci_Flower_Festival" artistically represents is "Flower Festival", a famous folklore song from Peruvian traditional music.

This piece is a collage of the 'Spring sketches' of Hanamiyama - known as a sacred site in the world of flower-arranging - made by the children of Fukushima, who still suffer the effects of the nuclear plant accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, together with drawings by Unissograff artist, ca37.

This beautiful digital framed print is hand prepared to order by craftsmen in London, UK (please expect up to one week for delivery).*¹
Unissograff is art that would be incomplete without children.

*Donation Support*

20% of the net proceeds from your purchase is donated to NPO Hanamiyama Conservation Society, who jointly managed the Rakugaki Art workshops with Unissograff artist ca37 in Fukushima City, Fukushima prefecture.

NPO Hanamiyama Conservation Group logo image

The Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred on 11th March 2011 was a major factor in the creation of Unissograff™ and we are proud to donate to charities that work tirelessly to support children in the area who even now, some ten years on, continue to be affected.

Aftermath destruction left by tsunami in Tohoku

This includes NPO Hanamiyama Conservation Society, in Fukushima prefecture, which through its efforts to protect the Satoyama region around Mt Hanamiyama, renowned in the world of flower arranging, supports children’s hometown education in the area and helped to manage some of Unissograff's initial Rakugaki Art workshops after the disaster.

Cherry blossoms in Tohoku

Inspired by the cleanup activities started by photographer Mamoru Saito who since around 1965 had been taking pictures of the scenery around Hanamiyama, famous for its spring flowers in full bloom, NPO Hanamiyama Conservation Society was established in April 2005 as a "Meeting to Protect Hanamiyama" with the purpose of contributing towards the support of flowering tree (such as cherry blossoms) farmers and the people around Hanamiyama.
Following the the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the Society has continued to organise and participate in reconstruction support activities in the area, including;

  • Community contribution programmes
  • Nature conservation initiatives
  • International exchange programmes
  • Personal development activities
  • Support activities for various local groups and organisations
